We know accounts create friction. Here is an honest explanation of why we require one.
Your data needs to be saved somewhere
Tasks, bills, maintenance logs, and documents need to be stored in a way that persists across sessions and devices. Storing everything locally on one device would mean losing your data if you switch phones or clear your browser. An account lets us keep your home data safe and accessible wherever you sign in.
Your data should be private
Home data — leases, costs, maintenance history — is personal. An account means your data is stored with access controls in place: only you can see it, and other users cannot access it. Without authentication, there is no way to show you just your own home.
Sharing and collaboration require identity
If you want to share your home data with a partner, roommate, or household member, both people need accounts so Tend knows who has permission to see what.
